Ingredients

  • Day-old bread (torn): 6 slices
  • Unsalted butter (melted): 2 tablespoons
  • Raisins (optional): 1/2 cup
  • Milk: 2 cups
  • White sugar: 3/4 cup
  • Large eggs (beaten): 4
  • Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon

Instructions

 Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease an 8-inch square baking dish to prevent sticking.

2. Prepare the Bread Base

  1. Tear the bread into small pieces and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  2. Drizzle melted butter evenly over the bread.
  3. If desired, sprinkle raisins over the bread for extra sweetness.

3. Make the Custard Mixture

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together:
    • Milk
    • Sugar
    • Beaten eggs
    • Ground cinnamon
    • Vanilla extract
  2. Mix until the ingredients are fully combined.

4. Combine and Soak

  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread in the baking dish.
  • Gently press the bread down with a fork to help it absorb the liquid.

5. Bake

  • Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.
  • The top should spring back when lightly pressed.

6. Cool and Serve

  • Let the bread pudding cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use brioche, challah, or croissants for a richer flavor.
  • Add chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruits to customize the recipe.
