Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven & Prepare Your Baking Sheet:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream the Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add Egg and Extracts:
    • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until well combined.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Shape the Dough:
    • Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass or your fingers.
  • Chill the Dough (Optional):
    • Chill the dough in the fridge for about 30 minutes before baking if you prefer thicker cookies.
  • Bake the Cookies:
    • Bake the cookies for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are set.
    • Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for best results.
  • Avoid Overmixing: Mix the dough just until the flour is incorporated to prevent tough cookies.
  • Chill the Dough: For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
