Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (plus extra for dusting)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 box (17.3 ounces) puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Egg Wash:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the whole egg and 1 teaspoon of water. Set aside for later.
- Create the Cream Cheese Filling:
- In a medium bowl, beat the egg yolk, cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 4 squares.
- Fold the corners of each square inward to create an octagon shape, forming a pocket for the filling.
- Assemble the Danishes:
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese filling into the center of each pastry.
- Sprinkle the crumbled bacon evenly over the cream cheese filling.
- Apply the Egg Wash and Sugar:
- Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash.
- Sprinkle the edges with a light dusting of sugar for a slightly caramelized crust.
- Bake:
- Bake the pastries for 18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Let the danishes cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.
Notes
- Thaw Puff Pastry Properly: Ensure the puff pastry is thawed in the fridge for even pliability.
- Adjust Sweetness: For a less sweet danish, reduce the sugar in the filling.
- Make Ahead: You can prepare these danishes up to the baking step and refrigerate them for a few hours before baking.
