Description

Love churros but need a gluten-free option? These Gluten-Free Air Fryer Churros are the answer! Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and coated in cinnamon sugar, these churros are easy to make and even easier to enjoy. With the magic of an air fryer, you can indulge guilt-free and avoid the mess of deep frying!

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs

For the Coating:

  • ½ cup cinnamon sugar
  • Cooking spray (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture starts to boil.
    • Reduce the heat to low and stir in the gluten-free flour until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  2. Incorporate the Eggs:
    • Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough is smooth and sticky.
  3. Prepare the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Line the basket with parchment paper or lightly spray it with cooking spray.
  4. Pipe the Churros:
    • Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe 3–4-inch strips of dough directly onto the air fryer basket, leaving space between each churro.
  5. Cook the Churros:
    • Lightly spray the churros with cooking spray. Air fry for 10–12 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and crispy.
  6. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar:
    • While the churros are still warm, roll them in cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
  7. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces, such as chocolate ganache, caramel, or dulce de leche.

Notes

  • Use high-quality gluten-free all-purpose flour with xanthan gum for the best results.
  • Churros are best enjoyed fresh, but you can reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes.
  • To make them vegan, replace the butter with coconut oil and use a flaxseed egg substitute.
