- Cream cheese, softened: 1 pound
- Unsalted butter, room temp: 2 sticks
- Vanilla extract: 1 tsp
- Confectioners’ sugar, sifted: 4 cups
Instructions
Prepare the Cake Layers
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red and purple food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until the batter is smooth.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
2. Bake the Cake
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
