- Salt: To taste
- Ground black pepper: To taste
- Jalapeño pepper (halved): 1
- Shredded red cabbage: 2 ½ cups
- Green onions (thinly sliced): 4
- Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
- Tilapia fillets (cut into strips): 1 pound
- Flour tortillas (6-inch): 8
- Fresh cilantro (chopped): ½ cup
Instructions
. Prepare the Dressing
- In a large bowl, mix the sour cream and lime juice until smooth.
- Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Set aside half the mixture in a small bowl for serving.
2. Make the Cabbage Slaw
- Finely mince half of the jalapeño.
- In the bowl with the remaining dressing, toss the shredded cabbage, green onions, and minced jalapeño until evenly coated.
3. Cook the Fish
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the other jalapeño half to the skillet for flavor.
- Season the tilapia strips with salt and pepper, then pan-fry for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden and flaky. Remove the jalapeño half after cooking.
4. Warm the Tortillas
- Heat the tortillas in a microwave for 20-30 seconds or in a dry skillet until soft and pliable.
5. Assemble the Tacos
- Place a few strips of cooked fish in each tortilla.
- Top with a generous portion of the cabbage slaw, a drizzle of the reserved sour cream dressing, and a sprinkle of chopped cilantro.
Notes
- Fish Substitutions: Swap tilapia for cod, mahi-mahi, or halibut for a unique flavor profile.
- Spice Level: Remove jalapeño seeds for a milder taste, or add cayenne pepper for extra heat.
- Make-Ahead: Prep the slaw in advance and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
