  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries (sliced)

For the Vanilla Pudding Layer:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 ripe bananas (sliced)
  • 1 package vanilla wafers

For the Whipped Topping:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Base
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch sheet pan.
    • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    • Cut in the cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract in another bowl. Gradually add to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
    • Fold in the sliced strawberries and pour the batter into the prepared pan.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  2. Make the Vanilla Pudding Layer
    • In a saucepan, heat milk, heavy cream, and sugar over medium heat until warm.
    • Whisk cornstarch and egg yolks in a separate bowl. Gradually pour the warm milk mixture into the yolks while whisking. Return to the saucepan and cook until thickened.
    • Stir in vanilla extract and let the pudding cool.
  3. Assemble the Layers
    • Spread the pudding evenly over the cooled cake.
    • Arrange the banana slices on top, then add a layer of vanilla wafers.
  4. Prepare the Whipped Topping
    • In a chilled bowl, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form.
    • Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, whipping until stiff peaks form.
